Import policies in bulk

Upload multiple `.docx` policy files and convert them into Enlytning drafts.

Bulk upload converts multiple Microsoft Word .docx files into Enlytning policy drafts. Review and publish each converted draft in the editor.

Why Word documents work

Portable Document Format (PDF) files do not retain the heading, paragraph, and list structure needed to split content into sections. Word .docx files retain that structure.

Check permissions and availability

Your role and subscription plan determine whether you can use bulk upload:

  • User role: You must be a Creator, Admin, or Owner
  • Subscription plan: You must use Professional, Expert, or Free Trial

Plan limits

Essential organisations see a disabled Import Document option. Free Trial organisations can use it within the plan limit of 30 policies.

Upload policy documents

Convert the .docx files from the Workspace:

Each file must be 20 MB or smaller.

Open Materials and select Create.

On How would you like to create?, select Import Document.

Drag up to 20 .docx files into Upload Policies, or browse for them.

Wait while the uploader shows progress for each file.

Review the conversion results.

Review conversion options and drafts

Configure how each Word document becomes a policy:

  • Draft creation: Each converted file becomes an unpublished policy named after the source filename
  • Table of contents: Add a native table of contents to the top of the policy; enabled by default
  • Signature block: Add an acknowledgement signature to the end of the policy; enabled by default
  • Page structure: Choose One page per section or automatic pages based on content length

From the results, select Edit to open a policy, View drafts to open the materials list, or Upload more to add documents.

Formatting after conversion

The converter preserves headings, lists, and bold text. Review complex layouts and custom fonts after conversion.

Remove an old table of contents

The uploader adds a functional table of contents. If the source file contains a text-based version, delete that old text from the editor.
