Bulk Upload Policies
Learn how to save time by uploading multiple .docx policy files at once.
The Bulk Upload Policies feature allows you to quickly convert multiple .docx (Microsoft Word) files into native Enlytning policies. This saves significant time by skipping the manual copy-and-paste process, automatically creating drafts that are ready for review and publishing.
Why not PDF?
PDFs are a display format and don't carry the semantic structure — headings,
paragraphs, lists — needed to intelligently split content into pages and
sections. .docx files retain that structure, which is what the converter
relies on.
Permissions & Availability
Access to the bulk upload feature is determined by both your user role and your organisation's subscription plan.
- User Role: You must be a Creator, Admin, or Owner to use this feature.
- Subscription Plan: This feature is available on Professional, Expert, and Free Trial plans.
Plan Limitations
Organisations on the Essential plan will not see this option. Organisations on the Free Trial plan can use this feature, but are still limited to the plan's maximum of 3 total policies.
Uploading Your Policies
Follow these steps to convert your .docx files into policy drafts:
- Navigate to Materials from the main sidebar and click the Create button.
- On the "How would you like to create?" screen, select the Import Document option.
- This will display the Upload Policies component. Drag and drop one or more
.docxfiles into the dropzone, or click to browse and select them. - The uploader will process each file, showing its progress.
- Once the uploads are complete, the component will display a results screen showing which policies were successfully converted.
Reviewing Your New Drafts
The conversion process creates drafts with several configurable options:
- Draft Creation: Each successfully converted file is saved as a new, unpublished policy draft. The title is based on the original filename (without the
.docxextension). - Table of Contents (optional): A native Enlytning Table of Contents (ToC) can be added to the top of the document. This is enabled by default but can be toggled off before uploading.
- Signature block (optional): A signature block for acknowledgement and compliance tracking will be appended to the end of the policy. This is enabled by default but can be toggled off before uploading.
- Page Structure: Choose how your document is divided into pages:
- One page per section — Each heading in your document becomes a separate page.
- Automatic — Pages are created based on content length.
From the results screen, you can click Edit on any policy to open it in the editor, click View drafts to see all your new drafts in the materials list, or click Upload more to upload additional documents.
The conversion process is "best-effort." While it preserves common formatting like headings, lists, and bold text, complex layouts or custom fonts from your Word document may not be perfectly preserved.
Old Table of Contents
The uploader adds a new, functional ToC. If your original .docx file had its own text-based ToC, it will still appear in the document body as plain text. You can simply delete this old ToC from the editor.
