Choose how to create a material
Choose artificial intelligence assistance, a template, a manual layout, or document import.
Creators, Admins, and Owners can create materials with artificial intelligence (AI), a policy template, a manual layout, or a Word document. Open Create from the Workspace to choose a method.
AI Studio
Use AI Studio to generate a structure from your description. Choose it when you know the topic and audience but need a starting structure.
Start a Studio conversation
Describe the material you need and refine it in conversation.
Select Create from the Workspace.
Select AI Studio.
Describe the material and its type, such as “A compliance course about data privacy for new employees”.
Submit the prompt to open Studio.
Continue the conversation, then select Save to Workspace when the material is ready.
Studio generates the material through the conversation. Save to Workspace creates the draft that you can edit and publish.
Plan availability
Write a useful prompt
Include:
- The audience and learning goal
- The required topics
- The expected length or depth
Example prompts include:
- “Create a 10-minute cybersecurity awareness course for non-technical staff”
- “Build an employee satisfaction survey with questions about work-life balance and management”
- “Generate an IT acceptable use policy covering devices, passwords, and data handling”
Manual Builder
Use Manual Builder when you have source content or need control over the structure.
Create a manual draft
Choose a starter layout and add the content yourself.
Select Create from the Workspace.
Select Manual Builder.
Enter a material title.
Choose Course, Policy, or Survey.
Select Create.
The draft opens in the material editor.
Choose a Manual Builder layout
When creating a course or policy, you can choose a layout to pre-populate a starter structure. All layouts are fully editable after creation.
For surveys, Manual Builder starts with a blank draft and does not include a layout selector.
Compare course layouts
| Layout | Best for | Starter structure |
|---|---|---|
| Blank | Building from scratch | 1 empty module with 1 blank page |
| Micro-Learning | Short updates and awareness content | 1 module with a hook, update summary, impact section, action step, and a validation question |
| Explainer Guide | Teaching concepts with practice and compliance context | 3 modules: theory + knowledge check, practice, then compliance + final assessment |
| Scenario Challenge | Decision-based learning | 1 scenario module with setup, decision points, and debrief |
For a non-blank course layout, you can also add:
- Up to 10 learning objectives
- Up to 10 target audience entries
Enlytning adds these entries to the course description.
Compare policy layouts

Start from a policy template
Creators, Admins, and Owners see Start from Template on the Create page when the template marketplace feature is enabled. Use a pre-built policy as your foundation:
Select Create from the Workspace.
Select Start from Template.
Browse or filter the available policy template packs.
Select a template and complete its setup flow.
Save the resulting policy to your Workspace.
Import a Word document
Convert existing Word documents into Enlytning policies when migrating policy content.
Import documents
Convert one or more Word documents into policy drafts.
Select Create from the Workspace.
Select Import Document.
Drag in .docx files or browse for them.
Review the converted policy drafts.
Each document becomes a separate policy. By default, conversion includes:
- A title based on the filename
- An automatic table of contents
- A signature unit for acknowledgement

Compare creation methods
Choose the method that matches your source content and the control you need:
| Method | Best for |
|---|---|
| AI Studio | Generated starting structures and unfamiliar topics |
| Start from Template | Pre-built policy foundations |
| Manual Builder | Precise control, existing content, custom structures |
| Import Document | Migrating Word policies, bulk document conversion |
You can edit AI-generated content and restructure imported documents after creation. The method determines only the starting point.
