Build a learning path

Build learning paths by adding steps, selecting materials, and configuring conditions.

Use the Path Builder to name a learning path, select its materials, set their order, and configure conditions. Open it by selecting Create from Manage > Learning Paths.

Name the path

Start with a clear title that learners and reports can identify.

Enter a title of up to 75 characters in Untitled path. The title appears in My assignments and reports. You can also add an optional description of up to 200 characters.

Examples include:

“New Employee Onboarding”
“Annual Compliance Certification”
“Sales Team Product Training”

Add path steps

A learning path requires at least two steps. Each step contains one published material.

Select Choose material on one of the two empty steps in the builder.

Search for a published material.

Select a course, policy, or survey.

Select Add step below the last step when you need another step.

Search results group materials by type and mark scored courses as Scored. A material already used in the path shows which step it is in.

Open a step’s options menu to Add step below or Duplicate step.

Published materials only

You can add only published materials. Drafts do not appear in the selection list.

Reorder steps

Learners complete steps in the displayed order. Drag a step by its grip handle, or open the step’s options menu and select Move up or Move down.

Remove steps

Open a step’s options menu and select Remove step to delete it. You cannot remove a step when only two remain.

The line under the description summarises the path: its number of steps, its total estimated time, and how many steps have a pass mark. Each step shows the material’s thumbnail, title, type, and estimated time.

Add conditions

Conditions choose an action according to learner performance. They are available only for course steps with scored questions.

Selecting a scored course displays Add a pass mark. Select it to configure the condition.

Save the path

When your path is complete:

Select Save path in the header.

In Save this path?, review the message explaining that you can change the title, steps, and conditions until the path is first assigned.

Select Save path to confirm.

Enlytning returns you to Learning Paths, where you can assign the new path. Until then, open the path and select Edit path, or select Edit path from its actions menu, to reopen the builder and change its title, description, steps, conditions, or remedial materials.

Changes after assignment

A path’s structure is locked permanently when it is first assigned. Unassigning everyone does not unlock it because Enlytning preserves the original steps for learning history. You can still edit the title or duplicate the path.
